About

The Thumbnail Viewer in Grooper provides a visual, grid-based interface for browsing, reviewing, and managing pages in a Batch during the Review activity. It enables users to select and perform actions on individual or multiple pages using thumbnail images, supporting both quality assurance and Batch organization workflows.

Key Features

  • Visual Review: Instantly see all Batch Pages in a Batch, making it easy to spot issues such as blank, mis-scanned, or flagged pages.
  • Efficient Selection: Select one or more pages for Batch operations, such as confirming, deleting, or rotating.
  • Quality Assurance: Streamline the review process by providing tools to confirm pages, resolve flags, and ensure Batch completeness.
  • Batch Organization: Sort and manage pages to maintain order and consistency within the Batch.

The Thumbnail Viewer is especially useful for quality assurance and Batch organization workflows, allowing users to efficiently review all pages before finalizing a Batch.

How to Use the Thumbnail Viewer

The Thumbnail Viewer displays all pages in the current Batch or folder as thumbnail images arranged in a scrollable grid. Each thumbnail represents a single page and may show status icons or overlays to indicate its review status (such as flagged or confirmed).

How to access the Thumbnail Viewer in Grooper:

  1. Open a Batch in the Review activity.
  2. Select pages within the grid view on the Thumbnail Viewer tab.
    • Pages are viewed one by one.
  3. Confirm, delete, rotate, or sort pages as needed to complete the review process.
    • There is a button corresponding to each of the aforementioned tasks in the toolbar at the top of the viewer.
  4. Continue until all pages are reviewed and Batch organization is complete.

Layout Overview

  • Thumbnail Grid: Shows all Batch pages as thumbnails, making it easy to visually scan and select pages.
  • Selection: You can select individual thumbnails or multiple pages at once for Batch actions.
  • Navigation: Use your mouse or keyboard to move through the grid. Arrow keys, Home, and End help you scroll and change selection. Hold Shift to select multiple pages,

or Ctrl to add/remove pages from your selection.

Commands

The Thumbnail Viewer provides several commands to help you manage pages:

Confirm Page

  • Marks selected pages as reviewed and ready for Batch completion. Confirmed pages are visually indicated in the grid.

Rotate Left/Right

  • Rotates selected pages 90 degrees counterclockwise (left) or clockwise (right). Useful for correcting page orientation.

Sort

  • Allows you to reorder thumbnails based on different criteria, such as page order, intensity, size, or status.

Go to Next Unconfirmed Page

  • Quickly navigates to the next page that has not been confirmed, streamlining the review process.

Delete

  • Removes selected pages from the Batch. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone from the UI.

FYI

Users also have the option to not only right-click and perform the commands listed above, but they can also flag pages and apply Image Cleanup as well.

Sorting Options

You can sort pages in the Thumbnail Viewer to help organize and locate specific pages. Sorting can be done in ascending or descending order for each method.

Ascending/Descending Order

  • Toggle the sort direction to display pages from lowest to highest (ascending) or highest to lowest (descending) based on the selected criteria.

Sorting Methods The following options are available for sorting thumbnails:

  • Intensity: Sorts pages by their average brightness. Useful for finding blank or low-quality scans.
  • Height: Sorts pages by their height, helping to identify unusually tall or short pages.
  • Width: Sorts pages by their width, useful for grouping pages with similar dimensions.
  • Aspect Ratio: Sorts by the ratio of width to height, helping to distinguish between portrait and

landscape pages.

  • Flag Status: Sorts pages based on whether they are flagged for review, making it easy to locate

flagged items.

Image Cleanup

Image Cleanup is used when a page needs correction, such as when it is skewed, contains unwanted marks, or requires enhancement for better readability.

Example Use Case

Suppose a scanned page appears tilted or has stray marks that interfere with data extraction. Image Cleanup can be used to straighten the page and remove these marks.

Steps to Perform Image Cleanup

  1. Select the page you wish to clean up in the Thumbnail Viewer.
  2. Right-click the thumbnail to open the context menu.
  3. Choose the Image Cleanup option (may be labeled as "Apply Image Cleanup" or similar).
  4. Select the desired cleanup profile or settings.
  5. Apply the cleanup. The page will be processed and updated in the grid.

Image Cleanup options may include deskewing, removing lines or marks, adjusting brightness/contrast, and more, depending on your Grooper configuration.

Completing the Review

To finalize your review in the Thumbnail Viewer:

  1. Confirm all Pages: Select each Page and use the Confirm Page command, or use multi-selection to confirm several Pages at once.
  2. Review flagged Pages: Use the Flag Status sorting option to locate and address any flagged Pages.
  3. Finalize the Batch: Once all Pages are confirmed and reviewed, follow the prompts or use the Batch completion command to finish the review process.

Completing the review ensures that all pages are ready for downstream processing, export, or archival.
