Separate is an Unattended Activity that performs document separation. The Separate Activity can be added as a Batch Process Step in a Batch Process.

Glossary

The following is a list of terms you will see in this article along with their definitions.

Batch: An object in Grooper that contains the documents brought into Grooper via scanning or import.
Batch Folder: Any folder contained within the Batch. This includes the Batch level itself.
Batch Process: A Grooper object that consists of several Batch Process Steps that are designed to apply activities to a Batch.
Batch Process Step: A Grooper object that runs a specified "Activity" as part of a Batch Process.
Document Folder: Any Batch Folder that contains a complete document. Usually created after a Separate step in a Batch Process.

The Separate Activity runs Separation on a Batch. For more detailed information on what Separation is and how it works, take a look at our Separation article.

Separation establishes "separation points" in a Batch according to the Separation Provider used. Batch Folders are inserted at these separation points, and Batch Pages are placed within them, creating distinct Document Folders out of unorganized loose pages.

The Separate Activity is added to a Batch Process as a Batch Process Step. There are two ways to configure the Separation Provider that tells Grooper how to separate the documents:

The Provider can be configured directly on the Separate Step.
The Provider can be configured on a Separation Profile and the Separation Profile can then be referenced on the Separate Step in a Batch Process.

How To

To use the Separate Activity, you will need to add a Separate Step to a Batch Process.

First, right click on the Batch Process.
Hover over "Add Activity".
Hover over "Document Processing".
Click on "Separate...".

When the Add Activity window pops up, if so desired, you can change the name of the Step. By default the name is set to "Separate".
Click "Execute".

Now we have a Separate Step as part of the Batch Process in the node tree.
Here you can configure either a Separation Provider or reference a Separation Profile with the Separation details.
