Content Links define references to files or folders stored outside of Grooper, such as in a Windows folder or in a CMIS Repository.

  • Content Link has two sub-types: Document Link and Folder Link. There are 9 types of "Document Link" and only 1 type of "Folder Link". Due to this, Document Link is a more common term than "Content Link".

About

What is a "Document Link"?

Document Links are the main type of "Content Link" in Grooper. They are created whenever documents are imported or exported.

  • Import links are added to Batch Folders whenever they are created by Import Jobs.
  • Export links are added to Batch Folders after they are exported by the Export activity.

Most users are concerned with links added to a document (Batch Folder) on import.

Files are imported into Grooper by Import Providers like "Import Descendants" and "Import Query Results". When the Import Provider runs, the following occurs:

  1. A Batch is created according to the Batch Creation settings.
  2. A Batch Folder is created for each file that is imported.
  3. A link is attached to that Batch Folder.
    • If imported by Import Descendants or Import Query Results, this will be a "CMIS Document Link".
    • If imported by File System Import, this will be a "File System Link".
  4. File content/data is associated with the Batch folder according to the Import Provider's "Import Mode".

Document Links are Grooper's connection to the source file. This link allows Grooper to speed up overall import operations with the "Sparse" mode. For sparsely imported document, only a link to the file is stored in Grooper, rather than the file itself. Links also allow Grooper to update a source file with content processed by Grooper.

  • Links can be removed with the "Remove Link" command.

Content Link Types

Document Links

  • CMIS Document Link - Defines a link to a document in a CMIS Repository. Added to files imported by Import Query Results and Import Descendants.
  • HTTP Link - Defines a link to an HTTP resource, such as a webpage or a file hosted on an HTTP server.
  • File System Link - Defines a link to a file stored in a Windows file system. Added to files imported by File System Import.
  • FTP Link - Defines a link to a file stored in an FTP directory. Added to files imported by FTP Import.
  • SFTP Link - Defines a link to a file stored in an SFTP directory. Added to files imported by FTP Import.
  • Mail Link - Defines a link to a message in an email inbox. Added to messages imported by Mail Import.
  • ZIP Link - The only Content Link that links to content inside Grooper. Added whenever the "Unzip" command is applied to a ZIP Archive attached to Batch Folder. The Unzip command expands the ZIP in Grooper, creating child Batch Folders for each file in the ZIP. The "ZIP Link" defines a link to a file in the ZIP Archive stored on the parent Batch Folder.
